El Charco Verde · El Golfo: What to see and how to visit it in Lanzarote
El Golfo and the Green Lagoon (Charco de los Clicos): the green lake inside a seaside crater in southern Lanzarote.
An emerald lagoon inside an ancient crater beside the sea. Its colour comes from ocean water filtering through the rock and from unusual algae, set against black sand and reddish cliffs.
The sea carried away half of this old volcanic cone, revealing its coloured layers like a geological cross-section. Inside lies the lagoon, separated from the ocean by a black sand beach. Its intense green contrasts with the red rock and the blue Atlantic. Next to it is the fishing village of El Golfo, known for its fresh fish.
Entrance fees to tourist centres are not included in the tours; opening times and prices depend on each centre.
