Jameos del Agua: What to see and how to visit it in Lanzarote
Jameos del Agua, César Manrique’s first great work in Lanzarote: a lake with blind crabs, a white pool and an auditorium inside a lava tube.
A lava tube transformed by Manrique into gardens, an auditorium and the famous white pool. Its inner lake is home to tiny blind, albino crabs found nowhere else.
A jameo is a section of a lava tube whose roof has collapsed. This one was formed by the eruption of the Volcán de la Corona, and César Manrique turned it into his first art, culture and tourism centre, opened in 1966. You walk down into a grotto with a seawater lake, home to tiny blind albino crabs, and come out to a white pool surrounded by palm trees. There is also a natural auditorium inside.
Entrance fees to tourist centres are not included in the tours; opening times and prices depend on each centre.
